Pulp Conversion:

Pulp to paper conversion Pollution, over-flowing landfills and disappearing forests are all endangering our Planet. The process of refining tree pulp into usable
commercial paper. Printing & Writing – Premium coated/uncoated text, cover and writing papers; imaging papers; index and vellum bristol papers; colored offset papers and cover grades.

Green Seal:

The Mark of Environmental Responsibility Green Seal is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to
safeguarding  the environment and transforming the marketplace by promoting the manufacture, purchase, and use of environmentally responsible products and services.”

Design/Composition

      AA Abbreviation for author's alteration. Author's alterations are changes made to a job after it has already been entered        into production. These changes may incur additional charges.
      
Acrobat Adobe's Portable Document Format, referred to as PDF.
      
Desktop publishing The process of designing and composing pages and then outputting final pages on a printer,
       image/plate setter, or digital printer.

     
Pantone Matching System® Color charts that have more than 1000 preprinted color patches of blended inks, used to        identify, display, or define special "branded" colors.  PMS is the standard ink color system used by commercial printers.

Equipment/Printing Technology

Bindery Post-printed binding that adds value to the project, ie...book binding, stitching, die-cutting, numbering, foil stamping, laminating plus other finishing processes.
Bleed An extra amount of printed image that extends off the edge of the sheet or page.
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) The 4 process colors used in full color printing.
Coated Paper Papers having a surface coating that produces a smooth finish. Surface appearances may vary from eggshell to glossy. Available in text (lighter weights) and cover (heavier weights) formats.
(Un)coated Paper
Papers without surface coating but typically are produce with inline finishes such as laid and linen. Available in many color and shades in text (lighter weights) and cover (heavier weights) formats. Coating An emulsion, uv/varnish, or lacquer applied over a printed surface to protect it that may create an even glossier look.
Digital printing Plate-less imaging systems that are imaged by digital data from pre-press systems. Includes toner, ink-jet, and other processes.
Folding In binding, a term used for two or more parallel folds, examples: Tri-Folding (Z and accordion)- This is a
traditional, plus half-Folding, short fold, right angle folds, etc.
Ink Soy ink is a kind of ink made from soybeans. As opposed to traditional petroleum-based ink. We use soy and vegetable based inks and Zero VOC solvents on ALL of out printing jobs in order to reduce air pollution and improve employee safety.
Offset Lithography The process cylinder plate to transfer an image to the cylinder and paper. Used in both web
and sheet-fed presses.
We actively recycle all of our paper waste, used plates, waste inks and solvents in order to reduce air pollution and improve employee safety.
Stochastic printing vs. Conventional Printing We use computer-to-plate technology using a Staccato 200 high resolution print for the highest quality reproduction. Go here for more detail on this technology.
